Interchange - Enterprise Knowledge Portal for the Ontario Cancer Care System
Background:
Cancer Care Ontario is Ontario's authority on cancer information and care practices, and is responsible for monitoring and ensuring the quality of cancer care in the province. Cancer Care Ontario is the government's principal adviser on cancer issues.
The Challenge:
Cancer Care Ontario has embarked on a comprehensive
Information Management Strategy for cancer services
that is designed to ensure that all stakeholders in
the cancer care system participate in the creation,
sharing and use of information and knowledge to improve
cancer care (CCO's IM Stratagy Statement). This strategy
required a central point for achieving its mission.
The Solution:
ii3 led the planning, design, and implementation of
Interchange, an Enterprise Knowledge Portal available
to Ontario’s cancer care system participants.
At the core of Interchange is the unique concept of
Knowledge Places. These virtual communities of interest
and practice provide cancer care stakeholders a trusted
space to access and share policies, best practices,
research information, and critical cancer care knowledge.
Interchange also ensures that information is appropriately
filtered and personalized. Knowledge Places are highly
integrated spaces that cross many of the typical cultural,
organizational, and technological barriers that often
inhibit meaningful knowledge sharing.
Interchange is more than a portal. It is an integrated
knowledge management initiative that includes people,
processes and technology. It provides effective knowledge
sharing and collaboration, and gives Cancer Care Ontario
the ability redefine the way the system works.
The Results:
• Delivered Interchange on time and on budget
• Successfully integrated Hummingbird Enterprise
Suite (Document Management, Collaboration, KM Search
Server, and Portal) to create Interchange.
