Background:
Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) is one of North America’s
premier diversified financial services companies, and Canada’s
largest company with offices in more than 30 different countries.
The Challenge:
To maintain its competitive advantage, RBC is deeply committed
to the ongoing training and professional development of its
people. With over 70,000 employees, the delivery, tracking
and management of training for this diverse employee base
is a daunting task. RBC required a robust training platform
to optimize efficiencies and to help ensure an effective enterprise-wide
training program.
The Solution:
ii3 developed a sophisticated, web-based Learning Management
System (LMS), called the Personal Learning Network (PLN).
It enables RBC to deliver, track, and manage employee training
across their globe-spanning organization. PLN provides “just
in time” personalized training and assessments, program
and activity tracking that allows employees and their managers
to monitor progress, and detailed reports that track training
compliance and overall system usage. PLN provides integration
into the bank’s Human Resource Information System (HRIS),
and complies with industry accepted communication standards
(e.g.: AICC), which ensures efficient integration of third
party courseware into PLN.
The Results:
• Rolled out to over 70,000 desktops as RBC’s
Enterprise Learning Management System.
• Winner of “Excellence in Practice Award”
from the American Society for Training and Development
(ASTD).
• Winner of the 2001 National Award for Learning Technologies
in the Workplace.
